Lilongwe is the capital of Malawi, but not its biggest city; that distinction belongs to Blantyre.  However, Lilongwe still has quite a few attractions to offer travellers.  Malawi is a developing country, so they rely more on their natural wonders than modern amenities to attract tourists.

As such, the best attraction in Lilongwe is probably the Nature Sanctuary, a 150-hectare woodland reserve between the City Centre and the Old Town of Lilongwe.  It harbours many species of mammals and birds and the Lingadzi River runs through it.  The Lilongwe Wildlife Centre is also well worth a visit – they look after orphaned wildlife.  There is a fresh produce market near the bus station too.
