In order to hire a car in the Middle East country of Israel, you will need to be in possession of a valid driving license or an International Driving Permit. You'll find a lot of travel restrictions in Israel because of the security situation. There are areas where a car with Israeli plates may not enter, and cars with Palestinian plates may not enter Israel. Road conditions are often poor at the best of times, and after winter rain they can be appalling. Drive on the right and do wear seat belts.
Be extra careful if you hire a car in Saudi Arabia. This part of the Middle East is notorious for its poor driving habits, where complete disregard for traffic laws, poor road markings, and excessive speed are a common causes of accidents. You will require an International Driving Permit here. There is an extensive high quality road network throughout the United Arab Emirates and unleaded petrol is cheap. Driving is on the right.
The rules relating to driving licenses differ from one emirate to another. However, once you have been issued with a temporary driving permit from one emirate you can drive throughout the UAE. When you hire a car in the Middle East UAE you will be issued with a UAE temporary driving permit by our local representatives on presentation of valid national or international driving licenses (the latter is required in Abu Dhabi), two photographs and a passport.
There are several countries in the Middle East such as Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan where it is strongly advisable to avoid. Check with your own government before making a decision to hire a car in these countries. Most other Middle Eastern countries require a valid driving license or an International Driving Permit. When you make your reservation our representative will be happy to advise you of the local requirements.
