 Kalgoorlie is a small Western Australian city that was founded during the 1893 gold rush. It is also called Kalgoorlie-Boulder, because the adjacent Boulder has been amalgamated with it.

Kalgoorlie’s main street is Hannan Street and it boasts beautiful 19th Century architecture – reminders of its prosperity at the height of the gold fever during a time when the city had over 90 hotels. The old Market Halls at 272 Hannan Street can still be viewed, as well as the 1908 Town Hall, richly decorated during the gold boom. In 1929, on the 100th anniversary of the settlement of Western Australia, a bronze statue of Paddy Hannan (who had found the first gold here) was erected in front of the Town Hall.
