When it comes to car hire in Durban, CarHire4Less is a perfect fit. We offer you cheap, reliable car hire in Durban through our affiliations with excellent car rental agencies like Alamo, Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz. You can rent a car from us in the city itself or from the Durban International Airport. Public transport is lacking in Durban and tourists would find it hard to get around and visit the important landmarks this way. Nor is it always the safest option to take, so a cheap rental car and a decent GPS will make it much easier for you to navigate this busy city. Just remember to rent a car with air conditioning, because Durban’s summers are hot and humid, regularly exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. Even the winters are very mild and not cold at all Durban’s lovely beaches are arguably its foremost tourist attractions and the Indian Ocean waters are warm and inviting. There are shark nets and lifesavers; the Bay of Plenty is the surfers’ beach. Durban’s Golden Mile is a series of paved walkways, gardens and fountains, snaking between the beaches and the city and is dotted with luxury apartment blocks and hotels. Many other beachfront attractions are found here, like Funworld (an amusement park with rides for the children) and Water Wonderland (water rides). At the centre of the Golden Mile is uShaka Marine World. At over 15 hectares, it is the largest marine theme park in Africa and offers a truly spectacular salt and freshwater celebration of sea life. There is an old 1920s cargo shipwreck as well, transformed into a spectacular marine display. Daily dolphin and seal shows at the Dolphinarium are also a major attraction and should not be missed Fitzsimons Snake Park is highly recommended and houses around 120 indigenous and exotic snake species. There are daily venom milking demonstrations and lectures are presented on the reptiles. This promises to be a very educational and extremely interesting experience for old and young alike. In similar vein, Umgeni River Bird Park is very highly rated. There are many walk-in aviaries and beautiful gardens, inhabited by colourful birds. The Durban Botanical Gardens offer a stunning orchid house and cycad collection, amidst other beautiful plants Durban has many important architectural landmarks that chronicle the history of the city. The Durban City Hall is 100 years old and was designed in a Modern Renaissance style, very much like the Belfast City Hall, in fact. The City Hall offers many attractions, including the Durban Art Gallery on the second floor (housing the works of many famous artists) and the Natural Science Museum with its animal, bird and reptile displays. In Durban’s original courthouse, the Local History Museum depicts the city from the early days of the first settlers. The last important museum worth a mention is the Natal Maritime Museum. Two long-retired tugs form its main attraction, but there is also a WWII minesweeper and a Pirates’ Museum A monument worth a visit is the Da Gama Clock, which commemorates the very first sighting of Durban on Christmas day in 1497 by Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama. It was donated by the local Portuguese community There is so much to see and do in Durban that you would have to stay in this vibrant city for a couple of days to experience it all.
