Car Hire Johannesburg
Car Hire in Johannesburg is made easy when you partner with CarHire4Less for your transportation needs. We offer widely varying packages and an extensive selection of vehicles at low, fully inclusive rates. Public transport in Johannesburg is neither particularly predictable nor safe, so a rental car is a far better option. Just keep in mind that you would need a good GPS, because Johannesburg is big, bustling city and signage is not always adequate. Car hire in Johannesburg may be a bit of an adventure, but it is definitely worth it. The common notion is that Johannesburg is a business centre and while this is true, it does not mean that there is a dearth of tourist attractions. In fact, there is a great deal to see and experience. The Johannesburg city centre is best avoided, because it is a madhouse of frantic traffic and taxis. There are safety and security risks associated with this part of the city, so rather set your GPS to avoid the CBD, as well as areas such as Hillbrow. Thankfully, most of the important attractions are elsewhere. Gold Reef City is a large entertainment park with a mining theme. The complex offers a lot, like countless rides and the Gold Reef City Casino. The mining theme depicts Johannesburg at the turn of the 19th Century, at the height of the Gold Rush. There are plenty of eateries, parking and accommodation and many companies choose Gold Reef City’s conference facilities for meetings and seminars. The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens are breathtaking and tranquil. It covers 300 hectares and is popular among picnickers as well. Over 600 plant species and over 220 bird species are found here, among which a pair of Verreaux’s Eagles. There are many walks, and guided tours can be arranged. Another beautiful picnic spot is Zoo Lake, where you can enjoy a quiet stroll or boat ride. Zoo Lake is also the venue for the annual Carols by Candlelight and Jazz on the Lake events. The Johannesburg Zoo is a must-see as well. It is over a hundred years old and their superb night tours are highly rated. For something a little different, attend a guided tour of the facilities of the SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation) in Auckland Park, or visit the fascinating permanent exhibition of the history of beer at SAB (South African Breweries). Johannesburg also offers many museums for the historically inclined. Some of these are the Roodepoort Museum (local history), the South African Museum of Military History, the Apartheid Museum and the Adler Museum of Medicine. The latter chronicles the history of the health sciences in South Africa and supplements the University of the Witwatersrand’s Faculty of Health Sciences. The museum was founded in 1962. If you are interested in the arts, you simply have to visit the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the biggest on the sub-continent, exceeding even the size of the collection found in the National Art Gallery in Cape Town. There are fifteen exhibition halls spread over three storeys. The building in which the gallery is housed is a national monument. Johannesburg is also a shopper’s Mecca and boasts a vast selection of large shopping centres and boutiques. Among the most upmarket examples are Sandton City and Melrose Arch. The city also offers countless other attractions, like health spas, boutique hotels and nightclubs.
